How to read an order book
An order book is a list of open buy and sell orders for one pair. The bid side lists buyers and the price they will pay; the ask side lists sellers and the price they want. The highest bid and the lowest ask are the best prices in the market right now.
What is the spread?
The spread is the gap between the best bid and the best ask. A tight spread usually means a liquid, active market. A wide spread means fewer participants, and market orders will pay more in slippage.
What is market depth?
Depth is how much size sits at each price level. The cumulative depth chart adds up all bids below a price and all asks above it, so a sudden vertical jump — a "wall" — shows a large order waiting at one level. Walls can be pulled at any time, so they are a signal, not a guarantee.
Frequently asked questions
Is FreeOrderBook free? Yes. The site is free to use, supported by advertising.
Do I need an account or an API key? No. The book data comes from free public feeds, which anyone can read without a key.
Which pairs are shown? BTC, ETH, SOL, BNB, XRP, DOGE, ADA, LINK, AVAX and LTC, all quoted against USDT (USD on Coinbase and Kraken).
How fresh is the data? The book updates several times per second over a live socket when available, and falls back to regular polling if the socket drops.
Is this trading advice? No. FreeOrderBook is a data viewer, not a broker or adviser. Order book data can change in milliseconds and may be delayed.
What is the Solana order book? It is the live list of open buy and sell orders for SOL against USDT on Binance: the bid side shows buyers and their prices, the ask side shows sellers and theirs, and the spread between the best bid and best ask shows how liquid the SOL market is right now.
